The Made-From-Scratch Life | If you've ever grown or made something from scratch, you know there's a difference between what you make and what you can buy at a regular grocery store. Because everything else is just a poor substitute. We are celebrating the "made-from-scratch" life in today's podcast and featuring the brand-new book of the same name by my friend and fellow blogger, Melissa Norris. | KnowYourFoodPodcast.com/146

If you’ve ever grown or made something from scratch, you know there’s a difference between what you make and what you can buy at a regular grocery store.

Like, tons of people declare they hate sauerkraut — until they try homemade, old-fashioned fermented kraut. Store-bought vinegar pickled sauerkraut just can’t measure up. It’s a completely different food (no wonder hardly anyone likes it!).

Same thing with Melissa’s husband and green beans…

“When my husband and I were first dating, he came to my parents’ house for dinner. We’d been dating long enough that I knew he didn’t like green beans. But it was his first time having a meal at my parents’ home.

It was summertime and my mother had cooked up a big post of our Tarheel heirloom green beans. When I saw him dish up some of the beans, I knew he didn’t want to offend my mother by not eating what she’d prepared.

When my mother got up to get dessert, he reached for the pot of green beans. I thought he was really trying to impress my parents. I whispered, “I know you don’t like green beans. It’s okay; you don’t have to take seconds. My mom won’t care.”

He plopped a large spoonful on his plate. “I don’t like green beans, but I love these.”

Every spring of our marriage we have planted and grown these beans. My children won’t eat green beans from the store or in a restaurant. They can taste the difference. So can I.”

-Melissa K. Norris, author of “The Made-From-Scratch Life“

Is there something you make that elicits that “this is the best ever!” response in your children or spouse?

That cake or salad or mac-n-cheese that they won’t eat anywhere else.

Because everything else is just a poor substitute. And nothing is as good as yours that you “make from scratch”.

You’ve even occasionally overheard your spouse or children boasting about your dish to friends or other family, and it totally makes your day, right?

I have a few of these dishes, and I can tell you that as a wife and mom, there’s nothing that makes me happier than to know that my family love the dishes I have worked really hard at perfecting!

I’m 100% positive there’s something like that in your life. Something you do. What is it? Please reply and let me know!

And of course, listen or watch today’s podcast to hear more about the “made-from-scratch” life from Melissa, my friend and fellow blogger.

That green bean story above is from her new book “The Made-From-Scratch Life” — that I’m absolutely loving.

During the podcast, I featured Melissa’s simple lifestyle and also her brand-new book, The Made-From-Scratch Life. For a limited time, you can pre-order it and get $38 in FREE bonuses. (That you’ll love.)

All the details about the pre-order bonus package are right here. It’s really simple; hardly anything to it. You pre-order, then submit your info to Melissa.

Having grown up in town, I didn’t know the difference between store bought and “real” food as my family now refers to it! 17 years ago, I had just graduated college, and met my husband. He was born and raised on a farm; with all the homegrown foods that go along. Since I have learned to eat meat, raise our livestock, grow a garden, and preserve both! Now, when I go back to the city to visit…I am counting down the days until I can get home, and cook my real food again. 90% of our food is raised or grown, right here on our little homestead. There is no better life, in my eyes, than the simple, “made from scratch,” that we have.
