Just before the cold sets in, God leaves us a final parting gift before winter hibernation... The black walnut tree is ready for harvest. We had been purchasing an herbal mixture for our goats. When we realized the main ingredient was black walnut hull, it was a no-brainer! Time to put these ankle-rollers to good use because black walnuts have amazing properties!

About a month ago I had one of those ugggh moments. A good friend of mine had excitedly shared a new idea for on-the-go protein bars -- something low in sugar, high in protein, and satisfyingly kid-friendly. Yet, I snubbed her idea, passing it off as having too much sugar. The next week, when she visited again to pick up her milk share at our home, she brought me a sample of her newly concocted protein bar. Boy, was it good! So, I ate my humble pie, asked for forgiveness, and requested to borrow her idea and share this wonderful creation with you all.

Simple breakfasts are always a win in the kitchen, and an oatmeal bake fits the bill! Most of the mixing is done the night before, so in the morning all you have to do is add the last few ingredients while the oven preheats. Hearty oats, fresh apples, warm spices, baked till golden brown -- this is the perfect breakfast on a cold winter morning.

Have you ever looked at the ingredients on a tub of flavored yogurt? Sugar, fructose, corn syrup, flavorings, colorings... A bowl of ice cream often contains less sugar than a similar serving of flavored yogurt! The good news? It's easy to create delicious and healthy flavored yogurts at home. The possibilities are endless! Here are 10 of our favorites to get you started.

Yes! Homemade Mayo Is Easier Than Store-Bought! | Oh, no! You've got a *big* problem. You just ran out of mayo! In my house, at least, this *is* a big problem. Did you know that making your own is EASIER (yes, easier) than getting more from the store? Plus it's healthier and cheaper, too! Watch this video, and I'll prove it to you! | TraditionalCookingSchool.com

Applesauce... It's easy to can or freeze, with backyard gardeners and food preservationists filling their pantry shelves with many healthy, tasty calories for the long winter months. And while it is delicious simply as a snack right out of the jar, it has plenty of other sweet and savory uses, like Applesauce Custard Pie -- all the lovely flavor of a traditional apple pie with a smooth, custard-like filling.

Mediterranean Stuffed Grape Leaves {Dolmas} | Stuffed grape leaves are one of my all-time favorite foods. When we had them growing up, it was a family affair. Whoever was home loved to get in on the rolling. My mom would lead us in making a huge pot of them. We would eat off them for days, if they lasted that long! | TraditionalCookingSchool.com

Why We Steam Kale and Other Greens | Nutritional powerhouses like kale, collards, spinach, chard, and beet greens all contain oxalic acid, which binds with calcium and other minerals (like magnesium and iron) in order to be excreted from the body. Calcium and magnesium are precious minerals our bodies need to function and grow properly. The good news is: oxalic acid is easily reduced by steaming, boiling, or wilting the leaves of any of these vegetables. | TraditionalCookingSchool.com
