I’m thrilled to share a conversation about food, farming, and getting back in the kitchen — with Joel Salatin, self-proclaimed “Christian, libertarian, environmentalist, capitalist, lunatic Farmer”.
This is part 1 of 2. Click here for part 2.
In this half, we talk about what’s happening at Polyface lately (his farm) and he shares how we really should be looking at our food system.
After hearing this, you’ll think twice about every choice you make, whether big or small. Do we play the victim card or take responsibility for our choices? It’s one or the other.
Get to know Joel Salatin through the links and information below, and of course through this podcast. Plus… the tip of the week!

Listener Question
Today’s question comes from Brenna A.:
“My husband grew up farming and ranching grassfed and is now a commercial fisherman in Alaska. As food producers, how can we really get mainstream Americans to understand that REAL FOOD is worth much more respect and appreciation than it’s currently given?”
You’ll find Joel’s answer for Brenna in the podcast!

At the beginning of the broadcast you mention that Joel has written both “Big Picture” and “How-to” type books. I’ve read a couple of his books and loved them, but am now wondering how to go about implementing his methods in a practical way on our small-scale family farm. Can you tell me which books are the “how-to” books???
Wardee Harmon says
Ashley, the “how-to” books are Pastured Poultry and Salad Bar Beef. They’re much more practical than “You Can Farm” for instance. Though one certainly needs to adapt for location and goals. 🙂
