Your family’s best defense against processed food?
Get your kids in the kitchen with you so they can learn to cook, too!
Earlier this year, my dear friend and fellow blogger Katie Kimball (from Kitchen Stewardship) had an epiphany.
Like with so many of us, her lightbulb came on in a moment of crisis. Her family meals were suffering from the usual doldrums – they were boring, rushed, and often late.
You see, her life had gotten busier. She went from having one child to four. Her blog picked up steam and become a full-time business. And somewhere along the line, she’d stopped involving the kids in the kitchen and she’d stopped spending much time in there herself.
Her oldest son in particular had been such a good little cook, yet his learning was stalled for four years. (Time flies, doesn’t it?)
The mom and teacher in Katie joined forces to turn that ship around! She decided to teach her kids how to cook through in-home cooking classes. (Because scheduling it and committing to it means it’s more likely to happen.)
She even invited the neighbor kids to join in! And they spent this last summer learning 30 basic kitchen skills, including how to use knives safely and oh-so-much more.
You might be thinking… “How cool is that!?”
Maybe you wish you could live next door to Katie, too — that your kids could join in the classes?
I have good news… you can be Katie’s virtual neighbor. This is because Katie’s goodwill didn’t stop with the neighbors. She rented a big kitchen and hired a film crew, and put together a whole course teaching kids over 30 basic kitchen skills!
And through October 31, you can get a set of 5 videos — knife skills — completely free! Just go here.
You get: Knife Safety, 4 Ways to Cut and 3 Safe Ways to Hold Food, + Demos for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
Well, I better get back to today’s podcast. 🙂
You definitely want to listen to Katie’s version of the story I shared briefly above. She’s super entertaining and full of wisdom. (Like how she handles teaching multiple age levels the same concepts.)
