About Susan Gross and The Nourishing Traditions Cookbook for Children
Suzanne Gross lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Ziv, and their three children, Ariella, Natalie and Ethan. For as long as she can remember, she has loved books and music and has written numerous short stories, poems and songs. Cooking became one of her passions when she realized it was a necessary skill to have in order to keep her family healthy. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science and at one time was planning to become a school librarian. She still thinks being a librarian or a teacher would be one of the best jobs in the world, second only to being a mom of course. The Nourishing Traditions Cookbook for Children is her first book.

About the Book
Cooking the Nourishing Traditions way means following the wisdom of our ancestors, whose food ways were mindful of the earth, the animals and their own bodies. It means avoiding industrial processed foods (and dietary advice that promotes these foods) and instead, selecting natural, nutrient-dense foods.
Inside this book, you will find an entire chapter devoted to butter! Eggs, raw milk, meats, broth, fermented foods, whole grains and vegetables all take their turn in the spotlight. Children learn why these foods are good for them and how the way food is grown, processed and prepared can either help or hurt us. At first I thought the book was going to be recipes for feeding kids… which would be great too! But then I realized it is a KIDS book for them to look at and cook from! I get excited thinking that my kids can take more ownership of their eating and learn traditional methods. It’s one thing to tell them about it, and a whole other thing for them to do it and have their own book about it! Very excited about this!

I recently purchased Nourishing Traditions, Nourishing Broths and the book about Baby Care… I have also just started reading Weston Price’s book. The information is life changing, and we are getting used to a different way of eating. My 4 little children love to be in the kitchen and are constantly wanting to help me cook. I would love for my 4yr old to have this cookbook. She has chronic yeast and food sensitivities that we are learning we’ll have to deal with for the long-term. She loves cooking in the kitchen with me and I would love for her to have her own cookbook that we can use together while she learns to take responsibility for her health. I have two daughters ages 9 and 11 and they are both very interested in cooking and in finding recipes online (especially desserts, I have to admit, but that’s a start). They are health conscious so they try to replace ingredients to use real food in the recipes and this book is going to be great because I like to encourage them to learn more about real food. They will have fun learning and cooking real food having their own recipe book with pictures and easy to follow recipes.

I have been learning about nutrition on and off for over a decade. Very big was my shock to find out in the past two years, that (almost) everything I thought I knew was wrong. Since my daughter received Paula Deen’s cookbook for children 2 years ago she loves looking at the pictures of the ingredients and picking out a recipe to try. Then of course we see how we have to substitute ingredients and cooking steps to make it nourishing. While its been a great learning experience for her, this is just the book I have been waiting for!
