Do you want to be stronger and healthier?
Are you looking to increase your energy and protect yourself from disease?
For hundreds of years, men have been using herbs to do just that.
Here are 5 herbal powerhouses that every man should know about to improve health and vitality. For a corresponding list of 5 herbs every woman should know about, check out my previous post here.
More commonly known as Siberian ginseng.
Eleuthero, an excellent herb for men's health, is an adaptogen. It supports the adrenal glands, eases stress, improves energy, and boosts the immune system.
It's also known as a strengthening herb. Historically, athletes used it to promote energy and stamina — and to reduce muscle inflammation. It's often referred to as an enhancer of male virility.
Eleuthero also has anticancer and anti-tumor properties.
Also known as winter cherry, Withania somnifera, and Indian ginseng.
It helps the body handle stress, boosts the immune system, and calms nerves (source). It also promotes sleep, and increases energy levels. Traditionally, it was used to promote vitality and increase sexual drive.
3. Saw Palmetto
Saw palmetto promotes health in many areas of the body, including the prostate!
Not only has it shown promise in reducing the symptoms of an enlarged prostate, it also supports healthy levels of testosterone (source). This in turn regulates body weight, improves mood, and encourages virility.
Hawthorn is a natural tonic for the heart. It lowers blood pressure, balances cholesterol levels, and strengthens the heart muscle.
Numerous studies report using hawthorn medicinally on patients with heart disease (source). However, include it in your diet to keep heart disease at bay, too!
Make hawthorn berries into jellies, sauces, and syrups. (Just make sure to strain the seeds out, as some say they aren't safe to eat.)
Also known as ginkgo biloba or the maidenhair tree.
Thanks to the attention it's been given recently, ginkgo is now known as a memory booster.
Additionally, it increases blood flow and oxygen in the body. With increased blood flow to the brain, focus and memory improve.
It also supports good vision and eye health, in addition to sexual health and vitality. Ginkgo even shows promise in promoting healing from a variety of illnesses. These include Alzheimer's, dementia, and depression.
Although you'll find the nuts in Asian cooking, ginkgo leaf tea, tinctures, or capsules are more common in North America.
