Confession: I am having trouble getting out of bed in the morning. What’s the problem? I’m just too comfy!
For this early riser, it’s somewhat of a quandry — but a good kind. 😉
Here’s the story. Back in December, we got the opportunity to try out a non-toxic, perfectly supportive, amazingly comfy, and healing mattress (intelliBED). It’s been a nearly 6 months now and we truly love the bed, so I asked the founder of intelliBED, Shawn Clark, to join me on a podcast to introduce you to it.
Why? Because I know a lot of you struggle to get a good night’s sleep. A huge key to solving that is to find the right sleep surface. I think we can all agree that the best bed would be:
- non-toxic (no harmful chemicals off-gassing into the air you’re breathing while you sleep… yuck)
- supportive (perfect posture and alignment)
- comfortable (relieving pressure on any sensitive spots)
- durable (lasts a long time)
I (and my guest) are going to introduce you to just that bed in a moment. First, a refresher — the back story.
A couple years ago, I realized that I was not sleeping well and hadn’t been for a long time. I did the usual things — dark room, reduce stress, reduce latenight screentime, get electronics out of the bedroom, wear earplugs — and all those helped tremendously.
Yet the one thing those changes couldn’t fix was how I was waking during the night in pain. My body ached. I would not only toss and turn during the night, I would wake in the morning with achy muscles and stiff joints. It’s like my bed was causing the aches. I didn’t go to bed in pain, yet I woke up in pain.
Then we were introduced to intelliBED. This bed is firm to support spinal alignment and comfortable to relieve pressure. (How is it even possible for a bed to do both? Keep reading.)
It’s also non-toxic — imagine: no new mattress smell. And it will last 20 to 30 years!
Could a bed really be all these things? We decided to try out the intelliBED. We ordered our bed with their 60-day no-risk in-home trial. Shipping to us was free; and shipping back to them (should we not like the bed) was promised free as well. See what I mean? No risk.
We adjusted to the new bed for a good week or so. My second confession in this post is that change of routine is hard for me, and even switching to a more comfortable and healing bed took some getting used to. After that transition week, though… it’s been a dream. Literally.
One thing my husband and I noticed right away was that when either of us moved or turned over in bed (which we do much less of now… thanks to the intelliBED), it doesn’t cause the other to tip or roll into the center of the bed. There’s just no disturbance due to the motion dampening quality of the bed. I didn’t realize how much of an issue this was until it wasn’t happening any more!
Fast forward 6 months to today… Climbing in bed at night feels so good. It’s like getting onto a cloud that’s just perfectly made for me. I know, so cliche — but it’s true.
Which brings me to explain the bed’s construction. The secret (not really) is the gel: intelliGel. intelliBEDs have a food-grade, non-toxic gel layer. That’s what feels so good. It’s firm to support weight while it relaxes to relieve pressure.
Here’s how a person laying on it can experience proper support and alignment of the hips, shoulders, and spine along with perfect comfort for any sensitive pressure points (photo below):
When you listen to today’s podcast, Shawn is going to tell you a bunch more:
- the story of how they discovered the gel for creating the perfect sleep surface
- the 4 pillars of healing sleep — hint: I mentioned them above
- how toxic conventional mattresses are — and what you can do about it
- how true healing during sleep happens — you need to get into (and stay in) REM sleep long enough
- how they’ve made it possible for everyone to try out the intelliBED risk-free for 60-days
Please give it a listen — it’s an eye opener!

Hello, Wardeh.
I know what you mean about getting out of bed in the morning; I too am just too comfy. We don’t have an Intellibed but we do have a Comfy One. Dear friends gave us their bed when they got another bed. Our old bed was not working for my husband anymore/ever. This new one is definitely an improvement. It was interesting to hear about the gel layer. Your new bed sounds intriguing: I have a feeling though that it will be a while before we get to try an Intellibed. Until then, I will be looking into the mattress because it looks like an awesome good night’s sleep!
Best regards-Jamie

Thanks for the podcast, I was totally unaware of the Intellibed. Also thanks for setting up the special! Really helped me make the leap. Just ordered it today. I had literally just finished paying for my memory foam mattress two months ago but have had hip pain on the side I prefer to sleep on for almost a year. I was just so disappointed to have spent so much on a bed that felt good for less time than it took for me to pay for it. We got a feather bed topper to help but it only helped for a short time. It was pure will and misery to keep using it. Truth is in the past 8 years I had invested in two over priced mattresses that only felt good for a couple of years. I was starting to believe there was no such thing as a mattress that feels good for more than a couple of years. I am hopeful this will feel great, keeping my fingers crossed it will last a long time! If it doesn’t I will switch to floor sleeping! Thanks for all the information.

Hello, I was wondering how long the 10% off deal is good for?
I am thinking about buying a new bed, but am not financially ready yet.

Wardee,
I have been looking into Intellibed, but just feel a little hesitant because everyone seems to be recommending them and I am not convinced that they are completely non-toxic. I was just wondering what your thoughts were after having one for over a year now and if you have any advice to share with me as I consider this purchase?

We LOVE the bed. We have no regrets!
As far as toxicity, my understanding is that while some of the materials in Intellibed can’t be labeled as non-toxic or organic, they’re all inert and do not off-gas.
To quote Katie from Wellness Mama:
“Not all of IntelliBED’s materials are certified organic. This is because some of them are substances that by nature cannot be certified, but they are all inert and tested to be non-toxic and safe (even for pregnant women and babies).
All of their materials meet a standard called CertiPUR-US which means they are analyzed by an independent, accredited testing laboratory and found to be free of ozone depletes, PBDE flame retardants, heavy metals, formaldehyde and phthalates. Their foams are also tested to make sure they are low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound – less than 0.5 parts per million (below 1.0 ppm is consider safe).
The patented IntelliGEL is a synthetic material so it can’t be certified organic, but it is inert, non off-gassing and even approved for use in baby bottle nipples. In fact, this gel is medical grade and often used in hospitals for bedridden patients and burn victims to reduce pressure and promote healing.”
I do believe Intellibed is the best choice out there! And it’s very comfortable, too. The best sleep of my whole life. I love the bed and look forward to getting into it each night!
