Cold Quinoa Breakfast Cereal

If it is too hot to eat hot cereal, and whole-grain cold cereals are not in your budget or your cupboards, give this delicious whole-grain, healthy cold cereal a try.

This recipe is gluten-free, wheat-free, egg-free, refined-sugar-free and dairy-free.

  • 4 cups cooked and chilled plain quinoa*
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • smidge stevia powder
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts, such as walnuts

Toppings:

  • sliced bananas
  • almond or hazelnut milk
  • raw honey or agave, or xylitol

Put the cold quinoa in a mixing bowl. Break it up with a wooden spoon so the grains are separated. Add the cinnamon, stevia, raisins, coconut and walnuts.

Fill breakfast bowl with desired amount of cereal. Top as desired with sliced bananas, nut milk, and/or sweetener.

    in the directions when you say to add cinnamon,stevia,raisin,coconut, it then says oatmeal, i’m a little slow, but finally figured it out that it was the walnuts that were next.

    I am so greatful for your recipes. I’m new to the healthy food cooking, and don’t want to waste time or ingredients making food my family won’t eat, and your recipes are great!!!

    Oops! I made a mistake! It should say coconut, not oatmeal. And then I left out the walnuts. I will fix that. Thanks for letting me know. I’m so glad you’re enjoying my recipes. -Wardee

    Have enjoyed quinoa in rice with black beans but
    never like this for breakfast.

    Is quinoa made into a cereal similar to oatmeal
    or even corn flakes?

    Hello, Jerry. I believe there are quinoa breakfast cereals at health food stores. I have never purchased any because they’re too expensive for me and I’ve noticed that even the health food cereals have sugar in them. Sure, they call it cane juice, but to me, that is still sugar. I’d encourage you to try this cereal; it is delicious and not nearly as expensive. -Wardee

    I tried this recipe and loved it. The directions for cooking quinoa were perfect. The grains separate out so well, it is really like a cold cereal.

    Wardee,
    I made this this morning and everyone liked it. I made quinoa last night with chicken broth, and used the extra in the cereal! I was afraid this would be really grose, but no one noticed.
