I'm thrilled to introduce you to my parents, Ibrahim and Martha. Not only do they live in beautiful Montana, they've got this absolutely amazing outdoor pizza oven. I begged just a little bit, and they said yes to filming one of their pizza baking days. Be sure to watch ALL the way to the end... for a laugh! Plus photos from the videos and more info on creating a pizza oven. | TraditionalCookingSchool.com

I begged just a little bit, and they said yes to filming one of their pizza baking days. (Plus they made more than pizza, as you’ll see!)

They were just here in Oregon visiting us and while they were here, we worked on this video. Actually, it’s a video for our Cooking Outside eCourse, but I decided to share it widely with everyone — just because it’s so fun. Be sure to watch ALL the way to the end… for a laugh!

And here it is. Enjoy! (Below the video, I’ll include snapshots and some more information.)

My cousin, Greg Miller, a talented ceramic artist and potter in Northern Denmark, along with his wife Janne, herself a master potter, built their pizza oven in July 2010. (Here’s a slideshow presentation on how they built the oven.) Want more information on earth ovens? Greg recommends this book: Build Your Own Earth Oven: A Low-Cost Wood-Fired Mud Oven by Kiko Denzer.

They own a ceramic art center, cafe, and bed and breakfast in Denmark — Tolne Gjæstgivergaard. My goodness, I want to go there! Don’t you? Here they are pictured with their youngest, Iben, a daughter.

Is this not a gorgeous pizza?

When my parents fire up the oven, they also make pocket bread and Middle Eastern pizza. Why not make a day of it? I love that.

I will close with a big thanks to my parents for their love and support of all we do, and for taking the time to share their pizza oven with all of us (they love you all, too). And big thanks as well to my cousin Greg and his wife Janne for sharing their pizza oven artistry (and ceramic art) with the world. May God bless you all!

Enjoy! Be sure to leave your thanks, thoughts, and questions in the comments! My parents, Greg, and Janne will appreciate it very much. As will I.

Oh my goodness! What a delight to meet your parents Wardeh, and what a FABULOUS video!
Thank you Ibrahim and Martha for sharing your beautiful pizza oven with us. How fun! And the pizzas and pitas… well, my mouth is watering as I type and I’m wishing Alaska wasn’t quite so far away! 🙂

Aren’t they lovely? My parents, of course, and the pizza! I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

Thank you all Ibrahim, Martha and Wardeh for this fun video! I also live in Montana, and have wondered about making an outdoor pizza oven. Judging by the scenery in the video I am guessing you aren’t in the half of Montana that hits -20 or colder every winter. I wonder if temperatures that cold would ruin a pizza oven like this…

I live in Montana too, and I’m not sure there is a part of Montana that doesn’t hit -20 at least once in the winter. 😛

That was awesome! Your parents seem like lovely fun people, and I can’t wait to show this to my husband. We’ve talked about a wood-fired pizza oven, and this just goes to show it can be done! The food looks amazing and it’s nice to see how they cook up. Things cook so much differently in our high altitudes (I live in north central Montana now, but lived in south central/easternish Montana before, and it was a huge adjustment from living at sea level in WA state!) Thank you for sharing!
