This is just a little bit different than the Chocolate-Date Milk. My kids asked me if I could make vanilla milk from our raw goat milk. Since we are low on dates, I tried sweetening the milk with raisins instead. And it worked! So now we have a lower-cost option for fruit sweetening. I like that. Dates can be expensive, but raisins are less so. Please choose organic raisins – otherwise you know the grapes that made them were sprayed to death on the vine.

Vanilla Milk (Date or Raisin Sweetened)

This is just a little bit different than my Chocolate-Date Milk.

Course Beverage
Author Wardee Harmon

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup raisins or about 10 pitted dates
  • 3 cups raw whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons extra virgin coconut oil optional
  • 10 ice cubes made from pure water

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in Vitamix wet container.

  2. Blend on high until smooth.
  3. The little brown bits of raisins look like vanilla flecks and that works!
  4. Serve and enjoy!

    Wardee,
That sounds delicious! I make something similar with just a little bit of fresh-grated nutmeg in it. Kindof like eggnog.

I just had that thought this morning! I ate some raisins with breakfast and thought, MAN these are sweet. So, I wondered if I could use them instead of dates in many of those naturally sweetened, raw dessert recipes I love to love.

    Good to know!!

    Cheers,

This sounds amazing! I regularly buy raisins – not so dates. So this is perfect. 🙂 I wonder about adding some cocoa to make it chocolate…?

Mindy – yes! Just add less vanilla and 2 or 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder! I had you in mind when doing this because you’d asked about dates. I wondered if raisins would be easier for you and I’m glad to hear they are.

You have single-handedly revitalized our smoothies! We tried this for a snack the other day, and it was such a hit that we add raisins to our green smoothies now instead of honey. Thank you!
