Love hot cocoa and chai?
Now you can have the best of both worlds — when the two are married in a cup!
As the weather cools, I love to wrap my hands around a mug of a tea, warming turmeric ginger latte, or hot cocoa. Sometimes I enjoy all three in a day — no judging right? 😉
This chai hot cocoa has been my hot drink of choice lately.
Often beverages get a bad rap because of the overly sweet versions that are full of sugar and little else. Crafting a drink from scratch means you choose what’s in it. Then it can be truly good for you!
Ceylon cinnamon, clove, and allspice swirl in the air and add a fun, fall-inspired twist to hot cocoa.
Steaming milk and cocoa powder + warm Indian spices = chai hot cocoa.
I tend to be a bit chai-obsessed, which is why I like to keep a jar of chai concentrate on hand to make a quick cup of chai, to add it to a glass of “dirty” chai tea or to this delightful hot cocoa.
Chai Hot Cocoa
Steaming milk and cocoa powder + warm Indian spices = chai hot cocoa.
Makes 2 servings.
Ingredients
- 2 cups raw whole milk *coconut milk, or almond milk
- 1/2 cup chai tea concentrate ** or two chai tea bags in a cup of hot water
- 1/4 cup raw honey maple syrup, or cinnamon infused syrup
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
- Vanilla Maple Whipped Cream ***optional
Instructions
-
If you are not making chai concentrate then prepare your bags of chai tea.
-
Mix the honey/maple syrup, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt in a small bowl to make a paste.
-
Gently warm the milk over low heat (If you are using raw milk do not heat above 110 degrees).
-
Mix the chai, cocoa paste, and milk.
-
For fun you can use a milk frother and spoon the milk into the chai and cocoa mixture.
-
Pour into two mugs, top with whipped cream if desired.

- ***Vanilla Maple Whipped Cream, optional but oh-so-good.

This sounds brilliant! I am an avid chai drinker, the aroma the heat warming my hands and my tummy bring me joy. Mixing with hot cocoa is an evolutionary dream. I read about the chai concentrate and that will make life a bit smoother. Do you have a homemade dry concoction for gift giving in jars? Thankyou very much
Katie Mae Stanley says
I don’t think I have but always intend to. I’ve gifted jars of the concentrate before. It makes me pretty happy too. 🙂
