How To Make An Herbal Eye Pillow
An herbal eye pillow may be just the thing you need! With the weight of the rice and the soothing scent of lavender, you can rest and relax to your heart's content. Plus, these pillows are so quick and easy to make, you can give them to all of your friends, too!
Ingredients
- 2 fabric pieces 9.5-inch x 4.5-inch, cotton, silk, or satin
- 2/3 cup rice or flaxseeds
- 1/3 cup dried lavender flowers
Instructions
-
With the right sides together and a 1/4-inch seam allowance, sew around the 2 pieces of fabric.
-
Leave 2 inches open on a short end for turning and stuffing.
-
Clip the corners, turn right side out and press.
-
Fill the pillow with rice or flaxseeds, and dried lavender. Use a funnel to make filling easier!
-
Sew the opening shut.
-
To use, just lean back and lay the pillow across your eyes. Now go and relax! 🙂
Recipe Notes
- If you like, you can also keep the pillow in the freezer for some cold therapy, or gently warm it for some soothing heat. Lavender is used due to its calming properties, but other herbs could also be substituted or combined with the lavender. Mint and chamomile are two other commonly used herbs for eye pillows.
- Makes a great gift!
Wouldn’t this make a lovely Mother’s Day gift? How do you like to rest and relax at the end of the day?
...without giving up the foods you love or spending all day in the kitchen!

Hi I saw the post and thought it would be a nice gift to make as a Christmas gift. As this will be my first time making, I would like to ask whether is there a need to place a cup of water when heating the pillow in microwave.
Danielle says
Hi, Esther.
There’s no need to add a cup of water.

Hi
I would like to know if l don’t have dried lavender flower but bought at health food store had ground or crushed fine Lavender flowers
How do l fiquire or measure to put in this eye pillow ?
Danielle says
Hi, Diane.
We’ve not made it with crushed flowers. You’ll likely need more than 1/3 cup since they will be finer.
