A friend gave me a similar recipe last summer. Kids love this applesauce — what I love is that it is easy, raw and nutritious! You will need a Vita-Mix or other such heavy duty blender.

(choose organic ingredients)

  • about 4 apples, sweet variety such as Fuji
  • handful of soaked, raw almonds (why soak nuts?)*
  • handful of raisins
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • pinch nutmeg
  • 1 cup pure water

*Nuts can also be soaked and then dehydrated before use in this recipe.

Wash, quarter and core the apples. Place in the Vita-Mix wet container, along with all other ingredients. Put on lid with tamper.

While using tamper, turn on to variable speed #1, increase to #10, then flip to HIGH. Run only as much as needed to chop all ingredients into a thick sauce. Do not puree.

Serve immediately and enjoy! You may freezer for later also, but I suggest adding some lemon juice in with the blending to prevent discoloration.

I’m so glad I came across this from Kitchen Stewardship! I prefer not to cook my apples and this is the perfect recipe. I’m on my way to making healthy sauce for my family!!! Thank you for posting this!

    Blessings,
    Shelley

This sounds so yummy. Have you ever tried lacto-fermenting this? I’m trying to find lacto-ferments that my children will really like.

    Blessings,
    Carrie

There is a recipe very close to this that is lacto-fermented. I think I will try this one and just add whey to it. Let it sit out on the counter for 2 or so days, then refrigerate. Here is the link to the other recipe I’ve tried. http://thecoconutmama.blogspot.com/2010/11/lacto-fermented-apple-sauce.html
