stack of beautiful healthy pink and white fruit popsicles in blue molds, with text overlay: "3-Ingredient Mixed Berry Kefir Popsicles (probiotics & kid-friendly!)"“Yaaaaay! Do we get to eat them?!” my boys cheered when they heard I was making kefir pops for this blog post.

“Of course! As soon as we take pictures,” I replied.

Isn’t it a blessing when your kids don’t simply enjoy healthy, real food… they actually beg for it?

These probiotic-rich mixed berry kefir popsicles are the kid-friendly and gut-friendly treat of your dreams!

Your kids will have no idea they are eating nutrient dense food full of vitamins. To them, it’s just the best berry popsicle in the whole wide world.

Since it can sometimes be a challenge to get enough healthy fats and probiotics into our kids’ diets, these kefir popsicles are the perfect solution. And don’t forget, they’re not just for kids — adults love them, too!

Perfect for summertime (or any time), these 3-ingredient kefir pops only take 5 minutes to whip up. Leave to set in the freezer for several hours, and your treats are ready to go.

Why Use Kefir For Healthy Popsicles?

Sure, you could use milk, yogurt, or any other type of liquid you can think of for these popsicles. Yet there are some definite benefits to using kefir instead!

According to Donna Gates in The Body Ecology Diet, “[Kefir] contains strains of beneficial yeast and beneficial bacteria (in a symbiotic relationship) that give kefir antibiotic properties. A natural antibiotic — and it is made from milk!”

Here are a few more kefir benefits:

  • Contains more probiotics than yogurt
  • Well tolerated by lactose intolerant folks
  • Contains the enzyme lactase to help digest lactose

Also, if you’re in the routine of kefir-making, you may wonder how to use up excess kefir from time to time. Now you know you can simply make some delicious pops!

Here are 8 Yummy Ways to Eat Kefir if you need more ideas.

Course Dessert, Ferment, Snack
Prep Time 5 minutes
Freezing Time 3 hours
Servings 8 popsicles
Author Mary Harp

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk kefir
  • 3 tablespoons raw honey
  • 1 1/2 cups berries fresh or frozen

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender and blend on HIGH until smooth.
  2. Pour into popsicle molds and freeze for a minimum of 3 hours.

Recipe Notes

Variation: To achieve a pretty two-toned look, separate out 1/2 cup kefir and 1 tablespoon honey into a small bowl. Mix well. Blend the rest of the ingredients as stated above. To the popsicle molds, first pour in a bit of the plain white kefir mixture and finish with the berry blend. Freeze.

You can easily sub maple syrup for raw honey in these popsicles, or even use stevia if you're following a specific diet (learn how to sweeten desserts with stevia here).

Feel free to experiment and use whatever fresh or frozen fruit you have on hand -- mango, kiwi, and banana are all lovely choices too.

While popsicle molds are pretty inexpensive and nice to have for this recipe, you can also use small cups and plain popsicle sticks.

If you're struggling to get your kefir pops out of their molds, run under warm water for a couple seconds. They should slide right out.
