Dairy-Free Hormone-Balancing Chocolate Malt {with maca & collagen!} | It's no shocker that most women love and crave chocolate... especially around the time of our cycle. With options for raw milk, dairy-free milk, and avocado, this hormone-balancing chocolate malt indulges that chocolate craving! It's perfect for those PMS times when we need extra energy and a mood boost. | TraditionalCookingSchool.com

I love chocolate.

I really LOVE chocolate.

It’s no shocker that most women love and crave chocolate… especially around the time of our cycle. It’s so comforting and mood-boosting at the same time. Ladies, can you relate?

This healthy, hormone-balancing chocolate malt is one of my favorite ways to indulge that chocolate craving! It’s so good and perfect for those PMS times when we need a little mood boost and help balancing our hormones.

Why These Ingredients?

This luscious and nourishing chocolate malt is jam-packed with so much superfood goodness. It’s full of healthy fats, protein, immune-boosting whole foods, vitamins, minerals and a whole lot of chocolate-y flavor.

Maca Powder

Who loves malt flavor? I do! Maca has this amazing, natural malt flavor that I can’t get enough of, especially when paired with chocolate. These 2 flavors are a match made in heaven.

But there’s a lot more to this immune-boosting adaptogenic superfood than just the flavor. It’s also packed with amino acids, important fatty acids, minerals like magnesium, iron, and zinc, and Vitamin C. It energizes (perfect if you need to get through a workout!), boosts the mood, and balances hormones to ease PMS. Read here to learn more about this amazing adaptogen, as well as other herbs for women.

Collagen

I love using grass-fed collagen in shakes, smoothies and baked goods! My family uses it daily to help support gut health, bone and joint health, digestion, and immune health. It helps support a healthy metabolism, promote healthy brain function, and promote deeper sleep.

My husband uses it every, single day after his workout because collagen is high in protein and helps build and restore muscle. Plus, it’s tasteless and dissolves in any liquid, making it perfect for shakes and smoothies.

Cacao Powder

Cacao powder is an antioxidant that’s high in iron and magnesium — 3 very important benefits for us ladies, especially around our cycles. But… CHOCOLATE! That’s the true purpose of this addition.

Minerals & Vitamins

I always add a little bit of authentic sea salt to shakes and smoothies for some trace minerals. I also like to add whole food based Vitamin C powder for its immune-boosting properties, plus it’s beneficial in conjunction with the collagen.

Healthy Fats

Healthy fats are so important, thus this chocolate malt has options for raw milk, full-fat coconut milk, almond milk, and avocado!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw whole milk or dairy-free milk of choice
  • 1 banana small, frozen; or 1/2 frozen avocado
  • 2 tablespoons cacao powder or cocoa powder
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons sustainably sourced collagen (certified glyphosate free)
  • 1 tablespoon maca powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon whole food based vitamin C powder optional
  • 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 to 3 drops liquid stevia extract or 1 tablespoon raw honey or maple syrup
  • 2 cups ice cubes made from pure water or frozen milk cubes, or frozen coconut water cubes

Instructions

  1. In the order listed, combine all ingredients in a high-powered blender, such as a Vitamix. Blend until smooth. If the blender isn't high-powered, you might need to add extra milk (only add a little at a time to keep the malt thick).

  2. Serve immediately. Enjoy!

I make this “chocolate malt” at least 2 to 3 times a week I love it so much. It does taste like a chocolate malt and I don’t feel terrible after I drink it. Thank you so much!
